Saint John, New Brunswick (July 13, 2020) Acadia Broadcasting Limited and HFX Broadcasting Inc., a subsidiary of Evanov Communications Inc., are pleased to announce that they have entered into a letter of intent for the purchase and sale of HFX Broadcasting’s two radio stations in Halifax, Nova Scotia: CKHZ-FM and CKHY-FM.

CKHZ-FM first went on air in August 2006, following Evanov Communications successfully winning a competitive process for a new radio licence in the Halifax area from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). CKHY-FM started broadcasting in October 2010, becoming HFX Broadcasting’s second Halifax-based radio station.

Paul Evanov, President and CEO of Evanov Communications said: “Our companies have been in discussions about this for some time. We are very pleased that Acadia, a strong, independent East Coast broadcaster, will benefit from the addition of these stations to their roster. It is important to us that independent broadcasters, while adjusting to economic and market conditions, remain a vital component of the Canadian radio ownership landscape.”

Chris Pearson, President of Acadia Broadcasting Limited adds he is pleased with the opportunity to acquire two stations in Halifax, increasing Acadia’s presence in Nova Scotia. “We’re certainly looking forward to adding to the diversity of the Halifax market with our local brand of radio,” stated Pearson. “We appreciate the opportunity provided to us by Evanov Communications.”

The transfer of CKHZ-FM and CKHY-FM is subject to approval by the CRTC for the transfer. Upon approval and the satisfaction of all other conditions, it is anticipated that closing of the transaction will occur within 45 days of receipt of CRTC approval.
