Saint John, NB (April 26, 2021) – Canada’s broadcast regulator has approved the purchase agreement between Acadia Broadcasting Limited, (ABL) and HFX Broadcasting Inc., a subsidiary of Evanov Communications Inc. to acquire CKHZ-FM and CKHY-FM located in Halifax Regional Municipality, (HRM) Nova Scotia.

The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission, (CRTC) authorized the acquisition on April 26, 2021 after the application was submitted by Acadia in September to acquire CKHZ-FM, (operating as “Hot Country 103.5”) and CKHY-FM, (operating as “Jewel 105”) both located in HRM.

ABL President Chris Pearson said, “We’re very pleased with the decision from the CRTC on the authority to acquire both stations.  On behalf of Acadia Broadcasting Limited and its 150 employees, we are excited to bring our quality approach to local programming to Halifax and the surrounding area.  We would like to thank Evanov Communications for providing us with the opportunity to serve the tenth largest radio market in the country.”

Evanov Communications originally launched CKHZ-FM in Halifax on August 14th, 2006 before later launching CKHY-FM, which signed on the air on October 1, 2010.

Paul Evanov, President and CEO of Evanov Communications, the parent company said: ” We are delighted with the approval of this transaction between two independent broadcasters.  It will result in Acadia having a larger footprint and role in the local Halifax area while allowing  our company to deploy resources into growing our business in other markets. It’s a win-win for our listeners and our system.”

With the addition of CKHZ-FM and CKHY-FM, Acadia will own and operate 17 stations across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario.
