Winnipeg, May 12, 2021 … Last week, from May 3 to 9, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) recognized the 70th annual Mental Health Week, with a focus on understanding emotion. May 7th was assigned as National Child and Youth Mental Health Day.

To mark the occasion, bring much-needed awareness to this area of wellness, and to raise some funds, Evanov Communications’ Winnipeg stations Energy 106 and Hot 100.5 last Friday hosted the first-ever 12-hour Radiothon. Through a combination of match donors and listener participation, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, a total of $104,000.00 was raised in favor of Kidthink Children’s Mental Health Centre. KIDTHINK is a mental health treatment center and outreach program that focuses on child therapy and well-being for kids in Manitoba aged 12 and under. It provides treatment by mental health professionals for anxiety, ADHD, depression, behavioral, self-esteem issues, and learning challenges.

KIDTHINK provides child therapists, parenting and family support, child psychologists, and treatment from a multidisciplinary team that includes psychology, psychiatry, social work, and occupational therapy, and play therapy who all work together to give the children and their families the highest standard of care. More information about the organization is available at KIDTHINK.CA.

Over and above, and more importantly, the radio stations were able to provide their listeners with information about available resources and action plans for anyone in a situation needing information on where to get help. The stations dedicated much airtime leading up to the Radiothon and on the day itself. Listeners responded in droves in appreciation for the on-air content and in financial contributions.

Paul Evanov, parent company’s President and CEO said: “ I am very proud of our entire Winnipeg team who worked tirelessly on-air and behind the scenes to deliver such an im- important and timely event. While the 104k raised represents a great achievement, the awareness and service delivered to our audiences about mental health among children is invaluable. Not even Covid can stand in the way of achieving worthy goals for the community when we work together for the common good.”
